Spiritual development and personal growth are key in curing fibromyalgia

Spiritual thought, inquiry and development are all integral to the experience of chronic illness, pain conditions, such as fibromyalgia, and other great life challenges.

These challenges cause the individual to begin to reflect on the purpose of the experience, their existence.
Why do I have to live like this?

What did I do to deserve this in my life?

Did I live life wrong? Is this a punishment of some sort?

Why do only some people have to live with chronic pain?

Am I suppose to be living differently?

Why can't I find happiness?

Where is the joy in my life?

And so the questions go.

Spiritual development is defined by many, in a variety of ways.

Some link religion to spiritual. Others believe that religion is part of spiritual, but that it does not need to include religion.

But most do agree that spiritual development involves the search for the meaning of our existence, connection to ourselves, our core, and beyond ourselves - how are we part of the greater whole?

It involves finding our true purpose, living in and of peace - in our own lives and in connection with others and the world.

It is that which we value, that we carry and live, in relation to the self and the common whole.

It is a connection to our core, the god within, the light within, the source, the universal I am that I am, however you choose to say it.

It is finding a place in the whole, as the whole, part of the whole, through the connectiveness of all that is.

There are many ways to develop spiritually.

It is a very personal journey and, yet, can include traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Meditation

Some use meditation as a means to quiet themselves, to listen, to hear universal truths. Others use meditation as a means of connecting with their god. Still others find meditation can

take them to an enlightened state, connecting to the conciousness of all that is. And, then there are those who meditate for the purpose of calming and finding inner peace.

Gratitude

Gratitude is another component. It is finding that which is beautiful, that which gives you joy, that which provides you peace while acknowledging the gift that had been recieved - a gift that provides for peace in your heart and joy in your soul.

Search for purpose

The search for purpose involves questioning existence. It is looking for a reason for our being, other than to work, pay bills, eat and sleep. What is the higher purpose? What are we to learn from our experience on this earth? How does our interaction with others, with the enviroment, with the universe, impact our lives and those of others - near and far?

Connectivity

The search for the meaning of our being has us looking at connectivity - how our interactions, beliefs, values, choices create the reality in which we live as individuals and, ultimately, how it impacts the whole.

Connection to our core

It is the search for a connection to our core, our souls, that who we are, to learn who we are - to connect with our inner being - and then live in a way that builds love and joy within, that ultimately eminates out to the world around us through our thoughts, actions, choices.

Connection to the whole

It is about making choices that benefit the whole of the universe.
So, what does all this have to do with curing fibromyalgia?

Plenty.

Fibromyalgia is an imbalance in our bodies. It is our bodies telling us that something is not right.

It might be our diet lacks nutrition and is filled with chemicals, pesticides and hormones.

Or it could be that our interpersonal relationships are unhealthy, creating stress on our psyche, reflected through physical symptoms.

It may be that our work doesn't match our personality or skills that creates undue psychological or physical stress.

It can be one of these or a combination of all of these.

But as with all holistic approaches to health, the mind, the body AND the SPIRIT are referenced.

The spirit referring to that which is of the spiritual.

Is the core of our being that connects with all that is, call it God, the source, the light or the universal being.

Whatever you call it, the spirit within must be acknowledged and our lives must reflect the nature of that spirit for our lives to be in alignment with our purpose.

And when we are not in alignment with our spiritual purpose we can reflect symptoms; mental, physical and psychological.

And, so when curing your fibromyalgia it is critical that your spiritual development be incorporated into your overall wellness plan.

You will need to do this in a way that works for you. It will be different for everyone.

You may want to start a daily personal practice. This could include -

Meditation

Prayer

Time of silence

Gratitude journal

Journaling

Providing service to others

Self Reflection

Practicing mindfulness

Identifying joy in your life

Practicing peaceful communication and peaceful action

Looking for the positive in self and others

Affirmations

These are just some ways to begin to focus on the spiritual aspect of your self, on your path to wellness of mind, body AND spirit.
